In the wake of a tragic shooting at Hamoud Church in Jordan’s Karak Governorate, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has called for a concerted effort to combat extremism as a crucial measure to eradicate terrorism and uphold regional security. His remarks emphasize the necessity of addressing extremist ideologies in tandem with counterterrorism strategies to effectively mitigate the root causes of violence.
Sheikh Abdullah shared his thoughts on his official X account, asserting that efforts to fight terrorism must be accompanied by initiatives to counteract extremism. He warned that without tackling the underlying extremist beliefs, attempts to eliminate terrorism would fall short of ensuring lasting peace and security.
The UAE government strongly condemned the attack in Jordan, which resulted in multiple casualties and left others injured. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its solidarity to Jordan, reaffirming its stance against terrorism, extremism, and all forms of violence that compromise public safety and destabilize the region.
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized the importance of enhancing efforts to prevent extremist violence and safeguard communities. The UAE’s commitment to these goals reflects a broader regional endeavor to confront extremism and reduce the threat of terrorism.
