A record number of 10,233 submissions from 177 countries have been received for the 2027 awards cycle of the UAE’s Zayed Sustainability Prize, marking a substantial 32% increase from the previous year. This prestigious award honors pioneering projects that tackle pressing global issues across various sectors, including climate action, healthcare, food security, energy, water, and education through global high schools.

Each winner in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will be awarded $1 million, while finalists will receive $150,000. Additionally, six high schools will be selected as winners, each earning $150,000, with their respective finalists receiving $25,000. This incentive structure aims to encourage and support innovative solutions capable of making a significant impact on societal challenges.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General of the award, emphasized that the record-breaking number of applications underscores a growing global demand for effective and innovative solutions to enhance lives. Notably, a significant portion of the submissions originated from developing and emerging economies, with the category of climate action attracting the most entries, reflecting the universal urgency of environmental concerns.

The anticipation surrounding the announcement of finalists, which is scheduled for September, is building as the global community looks forward to discovering which groundbreaking projects will be recognized. The ultimate winners will be honored at a ceremony set to take place on January 12, 2027, where their contributions will be celebrated and their efforts showcased as models of sustainable development.
