In a gesture of goodwill marking the approach of Eid Al Adha, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who serves as the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and also governs Dubai, has decreed the release of 836 prisoners from various national backgrounds. These individuals are currently held in Dubai’s correctional and punitive facilities.

This act of clemency underscores Sheikh Mohammed’s commitment to fostering happiness among the families of the prisoners and providing them with a second chance to begin anew. The pardoned individuals are expected to reintegrate into society, reflecting a broader initiative aimed at rehabilitation and social cohesion.

Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan, the Attorney General of Dubai, has confirmed that Dubai Public Prosecution is working closely with Dubai Police to execute the ruler’s directive. The legal procedures necessary for the release of these prisoners are already underway as part of this collaborative effort.

The decision to pardon these prisoners can be seen as part of a larger tradition of granting clemency during significant occasions, which not only benefits the individuals and their families but also serves to reinforce social harmony and demonstrate the leadership’s benevolence.
