Trump, Xi to Meet Thursday as US Presses 100% Tariff Threat

by admin477351

President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping are set to meet this Thursday, as the US continues to press its threat of 100% tariffs on Chinese goods.

The “big meeting” will be held in South Korea during the APEC summit. Speaking from Tokyo, Trump was confident, saying, “I think it’s going to work out very well, actually.”

The tariff threat, set for November 1, was a direct response to Beijing’s decision to impose tight controls on its rare earth mineral exports.

This tit-for-tat escalation, which also includes US port fees and Chinese countermeasures, has broken a recent period of relative quiet.

Trump, however, called the upcoming talks “fantastic” and said they would be “great for everybody.”

This meeting is the main event of Trump’s Asia tour. His visit has also included a stop in Japan, where he met with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, addressed US troops, and met with business leaders, all with a focus on global trade.
